Reconstitution basics

Peptides ship as freeze-dried powder. Before you can measure a dose, you mix the vial with bacteriostatic water — and the amount of water you choose sets the concentration for every dose that follows. Here's the short version.

The idea in one paragraph

A vial is labeled by total peptide (say, 5 mg), not by volume. Add a known amount of water and you create a known concentration. From there, any dose is just a volume: dose ÷ concentration. Insulin syringes convert that volume to “units” — 100 units per ml — which is the number you actually read on the barrel.

Worked example: 5 mg vial + 2 ml water → 2,500 mcg/ml. A 250 mcg dose is 0.1 ml — 10 units on any insulin syringe.

Two rules that prevent most mistakes

Swirl, never shake. Inject the water down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently — agitation can degrade peptides.

Label immediately. Write the date and the concentration on the vial the moment you mix it. A week later, an unlabeled vial is a guessing game.
